James Monroe Senior Center

The James Monroe Senior Center has a mural that must date back to the eighties. After all, it includes an image of basketball superstar Julius “Doctor J” Erving who retired in 1987. The Monroe houses were the childhood home to Ed Pinckney, who led Villanova to victory over Georgetown in the 1985 NCAA Championship. Pinckney was then drafted by the Boston Celtics and his rival Patrick Ewing, born in Jamaica, raised in the Boston area, became a Knick and New York legend. The mural flies high with its positive imagery.
